Beautiful Lake of Bays offers plenty of great reasons to want to live (or cottage) in Muskoka
Tucked away in northeast Muskoka and abutting Algonquin Park, one of Canada’s largest provincial wilderness areas, the Township of Lake of Bays is considered a hidden gem in cottage country. Made up of the communities of Dwight, Baysville and Dorset, the focal point of this corner of cottage country is undoubtedly the beautiful lake after which the township’s named.
Popular for its high-end waterfront real estate and many fine luxury cottages for sale (it’s also a great place for vacationers seeking a luxury cottage rental), Lake of Bays is also popular for sports such as fishing (and in winter, ice fishing), swimming, kayaking and boating.
And in addition to attractions like the Dorset Lookout Tower, the historic SS Bigwin steamship and Lake of Bays Brewing Company (be sure to take a sampling beer tour!), the area is not without its celebrity attractions, too: singer Shania Twain cottages here, while actor Hugh Grant is known to frequent the members-only Bigwin Island Golf Club.
